It's been while....
I've decided to start keeping up with my blog. Hopefully, I'll stick with it...we'll see! Personal updates - my wife is pregnant with our first. We recently found out that the little one is a boy...due Aug 19th. We are in the process of selling our house. The house that we would like to make an offer on has a beautiful pole barn with a cement floor. It would make a perfect shop. The main room is 24 x 32. There's a separate room attached that is 10 x 24. The smaller room would make a perfect finishing room. It would require some insulation and a furnace, but that's a small hurdle. Woodworking updates - there's not a lot to report, except for the people that I've managed to study with in the last few years. Paul Schurch is the first marqueter that I started working with. He taught me how to stack cut my marquetry. I've spent a total of about 3 weeks with Paul in the last three years, and this year, I decided to reach out to other marqueters...specifically, marqueters who bevel-cut. This led me to a trip that I recently took to Massachusetts to work with Julie Godfrey. While there, I got a chance to stop in and visit Silas Kopf. I'll include a pic of a flower that I worked on with Julie. It's not pressed yet, so you'll have to just imagine this with a finish on it until I can get it pressed on a panel. The knowledge that I acquired was priceless...I've learned methods to add a LOT more detail to my work. In the meantime, woodworking is on hold until the new house is settled, as well as the new baby.
